Becoming a reality…

Why have we decided to leave life as we know it, swap a wardrobe for a rucksack, and travel to 12 different countries over 12 months?  To experience different cultures and see new places?  To escape and learn more about ourselves?  To have a fun and exciting adventure?  Well yes all of these, but mainly just because there is nothing left to do now the apprentice has finished!

It is 35 days until we leave now and trip is starting to become a reality.  We have three nights booked in Bogota, Colombia,  and after that,  who knows but whatever happens we will keep you posted in our blog right here.

If you do decide to follow our blog, please leave us some comments (by clicking on the “Leave a Comment” link!)  so we know you are out there!

We thought we would give you an update on our pre trip planning and thoughts so far.

Number of countries visiting :  The clues is in the title!

Trips to Blacks so far this year: 74 (probably not but feels like it)

Estimated Trips to Blacks by July 20th: 74 hopefully, I never want to see this shop again!

Percentage of clothes that we currently intend to take that probably won’t fit in our rucksack when we come to pack: Rach  – 75% Rob  – 0.1%

Thing that surprises people the most about our trip: We  are not taking our mobile phones.  Apparently it is possible to survive without them!

Most looking forward to: Cycling down the worlds most dangerous road in Boliva and the Inca trail in Peru (Rob) Too hard to name just one place/experience (Rach)  boring! (Rob) OK - I will have to say enjoying complete freedom for one year and experiencing new things every single day (Rachel)

Least looking forward to: 30 hours bus rides with no toilets (Rob)  Listening to Rob whinge about 30 hour bus rides with no toilets! (Rachel)

Most worried about: Getting Malaria (Rach) Rachel moaning that she has probably got Malaria every time she gets bitten (Rob)

Most going to miss:  Rob – My own bed, home cooking and tea with milk (Rach – I am sure you can get tea!),   Rach –  Mine would be bed, definitely, family and friends, hot baths, choice of more than three things to wear and work (not really –  just checking you are still awake!)

  2. Malaria is the least of your worries… wait til you come into contact with pisco, fernet & cachaça… they will give you headaches like you’ve never experienced and make those bus journey’s seem EVEN longer!

  13. Hi Rob,

Just wanted to let you know we are having problems with your Creds backups. …and there are no mosquitos here.
BTW Splendid photos and write up. Muchos buenos.

    • Glad you like it.

I may be able to look into your backup problem, if we can agree a fee in Colombian Peso, but then creds has never really got along with COP so that may be unlikely!
