Colombia – The first week in 60 seconds

Arrived in Bogota.  A city “on the move” the guide book says.  Didn´t really move us.  Never really felt that safe.  Rob said “lets hot foot it to the Caribbean coast”.  Rach said “lets go to this amazing salt cathedral and all these beautiful colonial towns”.  Rob said again “lets hot foot it to the beach”.  Rach won!

Went to a cathedral calved into the mountain out of salt.  Went to a colonial town.  Went to another colonial town.  Went to yet another colonial town.  Went on a bike ride.  Got lost.  Rach got some nasty bites.  Rob didn´t.  Wouldn´t have happened at the beach!  Ate street food in the town square with the locals.  Rob quite liked it.  Don´t tell Rach!

Got our first local bus.  Arrived in town with no accommodation booked.  Felt like real travelers.  Got a free ride from a Colombian bus driver.  Who says all gringos are ripped  off!

Survived our first long distance bus.  Nine hours.  At night.  (Sorry Mum, had no choice!)

Rach had a successful two way conversation in Spanish :)   Rob got a completely blank look when ordering “dos menu del dias”.  How can that possibly be mis-understood?!

Rach got sick.  Rob didn´t.  Get well Rach xx.  Rach got well.  Arrived at beach.  Sipping a beer.

Phew!

  2. Glad you managed to order una cerveza without too much trouble sounds as though you deserved it. Love the sound of Rae getting her own way Rod, so not like her ;)
Hows the haircut? looking a little long, any news about the shoes I might need to get them repaired!!

    • The hair is good, can I book in for an appointment, say next Tuesday in Equador ? And stop wearing my shoes – they are too big for you!

  3. Hey! Glad everything is going well and happy first wedding anniversary for tomorrow!!! I’m sure you are doing something really romantic like climbing a mountain! Well enjoy your beer on the beach – sounds fab. x

  4. Great Update and pics, love the bottom right part of the pic of Rob. Not missing much here, its cold and raining but on a positive note England are taking control in the third test against the Aussies after we won the second test! Looking forward to more updates soon.
Did you take that sparkling shirt, don’t see any pics yet!!

    • Thanks for the cricket update! Keep them coming.

No no suitable occasion to wear the pink shirt yet! I do have a John Rocha T shirt with me and have discovered that Rocha is slag for cocaine in Colombia! So leaving that one at the bottom of my bag for now!

  5. Happy Anniversary!
