Taganga and the beautiful Parque Nacional Tayrona

Having arrived at the coast we decided to spend a few days in the small fishing village of Taganga. We had seen relatively few foreign tourists so far but when we arrived in Taganga we realised that was about to change. This was the place where all the backpackers were hiding out. It is the kind of place you could stay for weeks and many people seemed to, but for us, at the start of our trip, we only needed a couple of days to recharge our batteries.

After Taganga we were keen to get to the much talked about Parque Nacional Tayrona. We were dropped off as far into the park as vehicles were permitted and then had a strenuous 45 minute hike carrying our entire kit. Rachel was starting to regret packing her bag with everything she could possibly fit in, I had no problems! The walk was worth it the place is spectacular with lots of beautiful bays overhung by palm trees of the forest. Our days here were spent exploring the beaches and eating mangos freshly fallen from the trees, chopped up using my new penknife (so thanks ABN/RBS!)

Our bed for the next two nights was a hammock, which sounds romantic, sleeping in the open air and being woken up by the sun rise.

I hate to shatter the illusion but it was the worse two nights sleep we have ever had (yes worse than the night bus!) and we have never been bitten so much. I had 39 bites on the right hand side of my face alone I look like I have the measles! But how can you complain when you wake up to this.

  1. Nice update mate, beaches look fantastic! Not as keen on the mozzie situation!

    My UK update
    - England drew the cricket after rain. Freddie look doubtful for the next test on Friday
    - Weather is still rubbish but hey its good for the garden
    - Got myself a dog – have been showing it a picture of you and teaching it how to attack Monkeys, although not many monkeys in Cov.

  2. 39 bites Rachel didn`t have a dream about sleeping next to a pile of mangos did she.

The place looks fantastic !! and you still have so much more to come. (bites i mean not the places :-) )

  3. I need to go back to visit Tayrona!!! Didnt fancy the lost City then?! I think the mozzies would be worse there though. You’ll you be a pro on those buses in no time, and 9 hours will seem like a short ride once you head south! x

  4. Love the pics even if you didn’t include one of your one-sided mozzie bitten, Phantom of the Opera, face! Also liking the Ray Mears style survival skills. V impressed!
